Roi Et Rajabhat University and Sustainable Food Security

The Center for Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, Roi Et Rajabhat University, serves as a production and learning hub for sustainable livestock and plant-based food production. This includes organic vegetables, pesticide-free vegetables, mushroom cultivation, animal husbandry (such as native goats, local breed chickens, broiler chickens, and good-mood egg-laying chickens), as well as fish farming (as seen in Pictures 1 and 2). In addition, the center engages in the production of insect protein from food and organic waste, serving as a sustainable protein source for animal feed, substituting fish meal and soybeans (as illustrated in Picture 3).

Roi Et Rajabhat University has developed a conservation area for native plants, creating a conservation-oriented tourist attraction for relaxation and learning about the biodiversity of terrestrial ecosystems. Additionally, the area continues to serve as a source of food for the nearby community due to its rich biodiversity. Various edible mushroom species naturally occur seasonally, and the university allows the surrounding communities within the campus vicinity to freely collect mushrooms for consumption, under the condition that they do not harm the natural environment and refrain from cutting down trees (see Figure 4 for illustration).

Roi Et Rajabhat University supports the surrounding communities and provides services in sustainable and organic agriculture. This includes initiatives such as promoting organic herb villages, local community projects, activities to promote raising meat chickens, composting activities for organic fertilizers, and activities to promote insect protein farming to reduce animal feed costs, among others.
